Coach Jan Jensen leads healthy aging series
UI Head Women’s Basketball Coach Jan Jensen will be the lead-off speaker for TRAIL of Johnson County’s upcoming seminar series, “Closing the Gap: Healthspan vs. Lifespan.”
The five-part series, taking place every Thursday afternoon in October at the North Liberty Community Center, 520 W. Cherry St., will explore how improved health habits and recent medical breakthroughs can increase the chances of living longer and with better quality of life as people age.
The series is free and open to the public, but registration is required at https://tinyurl.com/2p9z7238 or by calling the TRAIL office at 319-800-9003. Those registering for the Oct. 2 opener will be automatically signed up for all five sessions.
Except for the October 2 event, which begins at 12:30 and includes lunch, all subsequent sessions are scheduled from 1-2:30 PM. Seminar dates, topics and speakers include:
- October 2: "Optimal Wellness: A Proactive Approach" by Julie Fitzpatrick, DPT, Optimal Wellness, PLLC, with welcome remarks by Jan Jensen, Head Women's Basketball Coach, University of Iowa
- October 9: "Partnering with Your Physician for Optimal Health" by Scott Eberly, MD, CMD, Geriatric Medicine, University of Iowa Internal Medicine
- October 16: "Total Joint: Understanding Your Options, What to Expect Before, During & After Surgery" by Dallas Vanorny, MD, PhD, Orthopedic Joint Surgeon, University of Iowa Health Care
- October 23: "Balance, Strength & Beyond: Aging with Confidence" by James Norman, PT, GCS, Athletico Physical Therapy
- October 30: "From Setback to Comeback: Optimizing Recovery" by UI Health Network Rehabilitation Hospital representatives and "Safety and Independence: Tools to Aid Daily Living” by Chris Nichols, CarePro Home Medical
