TRAIL welcomes new Board members

The TRAIL Board of Directors welcomed two new members this summer, each serving three-year terms ending in 2029.

Barb Stein of Iowa City has returned to the TRAIL Board after serving two consecutive terms from 2019 through 2024. She will also return to chairing our Social and Educational Programs Committee, where she has been a member since shortly after TRAIL’s founding.

Barb retired from the Iowa City Community School District in 2005 after 35 years as a teacher and school librarian. She then worked part-time for James Investment Group and in the children’s section of Prairie Lights. She enjoys learning about anything that promotes healthy, interesting, and active aging. She also loves being a part of her grandchildren’s lives.

Ashlee Vander Hoek, our second new Board member, is a wealth management officer at Hills Bank, where she works with individuals, couples, and families on retirement and financial planning.

Ashlee completes her studies at Kirkwood Community College soon and will then attend Mt. Mercy University to finish a business degree that she started 22 years ago. She also recently passed her Certified Financial Planner exam and will complete her bachelor’s degree next June.

She is an active member of the North Liberty Lions Club, currently in the role of secretary. She has previously served on the board of Kirkwood Alumni and Friends and the Professional Women’s Network. Ashlee and her husband, Jake, have two children and reside in North Liberty.
